TOP OF THE CLASS...
Hudlemeyer Leads Points Going Into March!
After
the first three events of the season rookie Darrell Hudlemeyer has found himself
atop the point standings. Many are already speculating that he may not
only be the top Rookie of the Year contender, but that he may even be the man to
beat in this year's Championship.
Hudlemeyer
has looked very strong in all three events thus far finishing 2nd, 4th, and
6th. He is only one of two drivers in the series that have 3 top tens in
the first three races, and he always seems to have a knack for staying out of
trouble. Turning a fast lap is no problem for Hudlemeyer either as he has
a 3.3 average starting position so far this year... 2nd best in the series.
"This
guy is one tough driver," commented Bill Fuller after a hard fought battle
with Hudlemeyer at the Kentucky Speedway. "Rookie or not, he'll be
one of the guys to beat all season long, and at every track."
Hudlemeyer
will be going into March with a 43-point lead over Gilles Mourette in 2nd
place. Mourette, a veteran of the league, hasn't raced full-time on ovals
since 2003, but his return has been impressive with two top 5 finishes thus
far. Defending series Champ Eric Brundies is only 47 points back after
quickly recovering from a poor finish in the season opener. Greg Bartlett
and Daytona 300 champ Pat Veillette round out the top five in the point
standings.
